WJ History
WJ Communications is the commercial products descendent of Watkins-Johnson Company. Watkins-Johnson Company, founded in 1957, designed and manufactured quality microwave components, subsystems, and systems for the defense marketplace for four decades. WJ's telecommunications products began in 1995 as an entrepreneurial activity, with the goal of combining WJ's technical expertise coupled with cost-effective design and advanced packaging technologies commensurate with the commercial marketplace. Sales grew rapidly due to the company's well-founded reputation for quality and performance.
A key decision was made in 1997 to refocus the company on commercial telecommunications, and over the next three years other activities in defense electronics, intelligence, and semiconductor capital equipment were sold. A recapitalization merger with Fox Paine was completed on January 31, 2000. Today, WJ Communications Inc. is a leading pure-play semiconductor and RFID company focusing on the design and manufacture of high-quality, innovative devices and multi-chip modules (MCMs) for telecommunications systems worldwide, including COTS devices for the defense and market and devices for RFID reader applications. WJ's high reliability amplifier, mixer, RFIC and MCM products are used to transmit and receive signals that enable current and next generation digital wireless and wireline services.
The company "was publicly traded" and is now traded as part of TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc (TQNT).
